Founded in 1980, Minda Industries Limited – Lighting Division is one of the leading automotive lamps manufacturers in India, developing new technology affordable products for two, three, four wheeler and off-road vehicles, growing at a consistent rate of 25% CAGR (Compounded annual Growth Rate) per annum.
With approximately 1500 employees, lighting division operates out of different locations across the country- Pantnagar, Haridwar, Sonepat, Manesar and two locations in Pune, catering to most OEM customers like Yamaha, Suzuki, Hero, Honda, Swaraj Mazda, New Holland, Eicher, Maruti Suzuki, Renault Nissan, Mahindra, Tafe, Royal Enfield, General Motors, Fiat, Volkswagen, Toyota, Tata, Ford etc.
The Lighting division is one of the leading automotive lamp manufacturers in India, with design centers and customer support offices in Taiwan, Japan and a strategic sourcing unit in China. International customer base includes Daihatsu, Mbk, Suzuki, Piaggio, Kawasaki, Torica, Volkwagen etc.
One of the biggest strengths of the company is the self reliance model they have chosen to adopt. With the opening of a state-of-the-art Design Centres in Taiwan, Spain and India. The division has extended its engineering wing for designing and developing automotive lighting products.
The Design Centre in Taiwan has given the necessary boost to the company’s expertise in optical and mechanical designing of automotive lamps, in addition to capitalising on the strategic advantage of Taiwan as an established and high quality, yet cost effective, destination for tooling.
The main objective of this initiative has been to interface with Taiwan supplier community and program managers, giving an easy access to product designing capabilities, tool making and machine development. The Lighting division has an excellent rapport with the Taiwan supplier community, due to continuous resident engineer interaction. This centre in Taiwan has made designing cost competitive, while ensuring faster turnaround times, which has helped the company to serve the Indian automobile market proactively by creating their own capability in Designing & Simulation. In addition, the Design Centre is acting as an interface between Taiwan suppliers and program managers, while also sourcing new suppliers for design, simulation, tooling, fixtures, Special Purpose Machines, raw material and other parts.
As with most successful companies, Minda Industries Limited – Lighting Division intends to grow both organically and inorganically and many new initiatives are being developed.
The Lighting division entered into a Technical License Agreement in December 2012, with AMS Co. Ltd., the Korean market leader for lighting systems, headquartered at Gyeongbuk, Korea. The TLA has been signed for design, manufacture and sale of highly engineered Automotive Lamps. With this agreement AMS would provide technical support for design and development of Head Lamps, Tail Lamps, Fog Lamps etc., both with conventional light sources, as well as new technologies such as LED light sources, for four wheeler OEMs in India and Indonesia
In 2016, the Division acquired Spain based Rinder Group for an enterprise value of Euro 20Mn.The acquisition includes 100% equity holding in Rinder India Pvt. Ltd. and Light Systems and Technical Center, Spain along with 50% equity holding in Rinder Riducu, Colombia.This acquisition establishes Minda Industries Limited as a technology leader in lighting solutions and will further augment the R&D Capabilities of the company.
